Dua — 5th Moharram (Trusting Allah Alone)

دُعَاءُ الْيَوْمِ الْخَامِسِ — التَّوَكُّلُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَحْدَهُ

5th of Moharram — enemy forces multiplied and the siege tightened. Earthly support had vanished — Muslim ibn Aqil's mission in Kufa had failed, supporters had dispersed. Imam Husain was left with 72 companions against thousands. He turned to Allah alone.

English

O Allah, on this day the armies of oppression multiplied around our master Husain. All worldly means fell away and not one earthly helper remained — only You. And that was the most perfect of states, the most complete of trust in Allah: when the causes disappear, the Cause-Giver becomes visible. O my God, how many times do we lean on causes and forget the One who causes them? And how many among us collapse when circumstances collapse, because they had not tied their hearts to You? Teach us, O our Lord, that true reliance on Allah makes created things transient, while You remain forever. O Allah, Husain found himself alone and did not see it as abandonment — rather he saw it as an honor, for hardship had purified him for Allah alone. O Allah, make our trials into degrees of nearness to You, not into obstacles that drive us away from You. O Allah, fix faith in our hearts as firm as mountains, and make us among those who return to You in every matter. And may Allah bless Muhammad and his noble family.
