Supplication
Dua at the start of a journey
Recited when setting out on any journey — especially for Ziyarat, Hajj, Umrah, or extended travel. The Prophet (SAW) taught this dua to his companions departing on journeys.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقوَى وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرضَى اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّن عَلَينَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا وَاطوِ عَنَّا بُعدَهُ اللَّهُمَّ أَنتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالخَلِيفَةُ فِي الأَهلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِن وَعثَاءِ السَّفَرِ وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنظَرِ وَسُوءِ الْمُنقَلَبِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالأَهلِ
Allāhumma innā nasʾaluka fī safarinā hādhal birra wat-taqwā wa minal ʿamali mā tarḍā Allāhumma hawwin ʿalaynā safaranā hādhā waṭwi ʿannā buʿdahu Allāhumma anta ṣ-ṣāḥibu fi s-safari wal-khalīfatu fi l-ahl Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika min waʿthāʾi s-safari wa kaʾābati l-manẓari wa sūʾi l-munqalabi fi l-māli wal-ahl
O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make easy for us this journey and shorten its distance for us. O Allah, You are our Companion in travel and the Guardian of our family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of travel, from distressing sights, and from a miserable return regarding wealth and family.
